Enameled Charms

Hello, Allie here to share a little technique. It's kind of fun, and pretty easy, and there are NO mistakes - you just end up with a fun, distressed, enameled charm.

I started with Piccolo Chipboard Pieces and Piccolo Powders, and I also used Glasstique and Embossing Adhesive. These products are all extremely easy to use!

I decoupaged a pretty napkin to the charm. I used only the top layer.

I adhered napkin to chipboard charm using glue stick.
I sanded away the excess with Basic Grey sanding tools.
Afterwards, I dabbed on Embossing Adhesive around edges, heat to set.
Then, I applied some Glasstique.

Once I had a layer of Glasstique on, I pressed the chipboard piece, glaze side down, on my craft sheet (Ranger).
While it was upside down, I gently cleaned any overflow, or clogged openings.

I turned the charm back over and heat set the Glasstique with my embossing tool, until glaze begins to brown or bubble. (NOTE - do this step in a well ventilated area - there can be some odor from melting the adhesive).
I added a little more Piccolo powder and heat set afterwards, for a little more dimension and sparkle.

For a finishing touch, I went over any exposed chipboard with a Copic Marker. Please note that Copics and powders are not meant to be used together so I was just using it on the unembossed areas.

Siam, Thank you ma'am!

Hello, Allie here back with more Globecraft magic! At first glance, you might think these keys and butterflies are metal. Not so! With a little bit of magic using Piccolo Enamel Powder in Siam Silver, these beauties are turned into metallic looking art. I was first intimidated by these powders. I quickly learned they are very easy to use.

To start this project, I removed the keys using tweezers.

1

Next, I dabbed the keys and butterflies with enamel powder adhesive.  I then sprinkled Siam Silver enamel powder on the pieces. I shook off the excess powder and embossed using my heat tool. Another option is to bake at 350-400 degrees for 60-70 seconds.  You can tell when the whole piece is coated by the color change. I repeated this process twice for both sides of each piece.

After embossing, I coat side one with Glasstique. Once that side dries, I coat the other side. 5
While waiting for these pieces to dry, I cut my chain, chose my findings, and placed my beads on the bracelet.

Once everything is dry, it’s time to add the jump rings and attach to the bracelet. The final fun step – wear the bracelet!!

Capturing the Magic

Hello, Allie here to share a little Globecraft magic. The magic of OZ that is! As a little girl, I remember the first time I saw the movie. I had read the book, and many others in the series, and I was so excited. My mom and dad picked up some Chinese take out - and for the first time ever, we ate in FRONT of the TV! It was like a picnic movie party. Our TV was black and white, so the emergence to color was lost on me til later in life. I fell in love with Graphic 45's take on this Frank Baum classic, and I really enjoyed capturing some of Dorothy's friends for all time!

I got busy with some great products from Globecraft Memories, the  Grand Oval Globe and some Glastique.

Glastique
This glossy goodness isn't just for finishing.
It's an excellent adhesive as well.
I used it for adhering some of the layers inside my globe.

Grand Oval Globe Frame
This easy to assemble set comes with it's own easel stand and convenient holes and nails for lining up each of the layers. It makes the project a snap!

Overall, as far as difficulty, this was a very easy project. Do not be intimidated by the many pieces, or the globes! For the characters inside the Grand Oval Globe, I used two sheets of the paper from Graphic 45's The Magic of Oz Papercrafting Paper pad (8x8 double sided papers) that contained the main image. I cut the oval shape from one, and cut accent pieces from the other sheet so I could take advantage of the awesome amount of space inside the Grand Oval Globe. For the framed layers, I just chose different background papers from the same pad of paper.

To cut the background papers easily, I used a self healing mat and craft knife from Westcott to cut around the layers and the openings. I adhered most of the paper using SuperStik from Glue Arts - gluing the paper to the chipboard, letting it dry, and then cutting around the edges. I used Beacon's 3-in-1 to adhere some of the chipboard pieces together for final assembly, and also to attach the flowers. On some of the detail layers on the characters, I used Globecraft Memory's Glastique on the paper to paper, and 3M's foam mounting tape for raising areas. The tin man was cropped out of the project, so I actually cut out his head and placed it over the banner, and brought him back into the picture. I also raised up a part of his arm on two layers of foam tape.

I inked around the edges of some of the ovals - on the paper and the hard chipboard edge, with ink from ClearSnap.

The last touch was a little bling. I used strips from KaiserCraft and actually adhered them to the Grand Oval Globe, rather than the paper.

Introducing Allie

We're thrilled to welcome jeweler and all-around fab crafter Allie Gower to the Globecraft Memories team!

Allie is a paper crafter, mixed media artist, jewelry designer. For Allie, creativity has always been a part of life. She loves to design projects for manufacturers, do make and takes and classes for scrapbookers and bead enthusiasts. She is a fledling foodie, and often has something baking or bubbling over while she's crafting. Allie has been featured in craft magazines like Just Steampunk and Bead Trends and recently contributed to a book for Beadalon. Allie is pleased to design for Buttons Galore, Globecraft Memories, Momenta, Stampavie, and Want2Scrap and was recently made a Designer Member of the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA). When Allie isn't creating or baking, she's blogging for Charity Wings, and writing Arts and Crafts articles for the Minneapolis Examiner, or making samples for Dollar Scrapbooking and Technique Junkies.

I'm "mad" about Alice, and I love remaking items to store all my crafty treasures - these projects show my love for all things"Alice".

Everybody is creative. Not everybody realizes this. Creativity is about setting aside a fear of imperfection, and embracing inspiration, really allowing something that excites your senses, and letting it overcome you. Once you're okay with any outcome relating to your art, good or bad, you can really enjoy the process. I enjoy creating, experimenting, and sharing what I've learned. I like re-decorating storage pieces and altering things like boxes, journals, frames, etc. and making invitations and custom pieces for parties and other fun, themed events.

I look forward to working with Globecraft Memories and the team with this amazing opportunity!
