Washi Tape, meet Piccolo Instant UV Resin

Hello there, it is Arin again, and do I have a neat tip to show you when using Piccolo's new Instant UV Resin. Recently, I have grown very fond of washi tape. I love how a couple of strips can add the needed pop of color, design, and added personality to any project. While I was playing with Piccolo Instant UV Resin, I wondered how washi tape would hold up to it. Oh my was it a treat of positive success! Using the Instant UV Resin allowed a lot of freedom quickly, and I do mean quickly pulling together an embellishment that looks like a lot of time was put into it.

Here is how I did it!

Step 1 - Washi tape placement
Apply washi tape, trim excess and burnish down with a bone folder to remove any air from under the washi tape to prevent bubbles in the resin.

Step 2: Apply UV Resin
Apply a very large drop of Instant UV Resin to the center of the project and using a paint brush, brush the thick layer of UV Resin to cover area completely. Set in direct sunlight to allow to cure (it cures in 3 minutes tops!). Once cured, repeat the step of applying the Instant UV Resin for one more layer before adding second layer of washi tape.

Step 3: Adding second layer of washi tape
Add another strip of washi tape following the same steps above. Doing this,will give this project the appearance of looking through water with all the depth the Instant UV Resin gives when layered between thing. The washi tape colors do not run and it is an "instantly" cool way to add that extra zip to a project or embellishment.

Piccolo Instant UV Resin, is something that every crafter needs to have at arms reach. All you need to use it is just some creative imagination and sunlight! With spring here and summer on its way, what better excuse to have to get outside and create! 

A time for nature...

Hello! Tracy here again with another tutorial! For this project I am using the awesome Globecraft and Piccolo Steampunk Watch Ornament designed by the talented Terri Sproul. I was inspired by photos of nature reclaiming abandoned building and industrial sites. The clock is stopped at tea time and the butterfly is fanciful, reminding one always to take time to relax and enjoy nature.  

Supplies: 

• G&P Steampunk Watch Ornament
• G&P Butterfly Charm Set
• G&P Vintage Dress Forms Accents
• G&P Glastique Matte Finishing Glaze
• G&P 3D Enamel Mars Black
• G&P Copper Kettle Embossing Powder
• G&P Vintage Black Embossing Powder
• G&P 24K Gold Embossing Powder
• G&P Real Rust Embossing Powder
• G&P Siam Silver Embossing Powder
• G&P Piccolo Embossing Powder Adhesive
• G&P Pure Sparkle Gold Glitter
• Piccolo Easy Grip Tweezers
• Black ink stamp pad
• Cotton Swabs
• Mini Adhesive Foam squares
• Green crystal stickers   
• Heat gun
• Reindeer Moss
• Gear stamps

Taking the black dye ink pads, rub it on the back plate section of the clock. This will be the face of the clock so you want it to look old and worn.

Stamp the back plate with the gears stamps.

Carefully separate the bottom and top frame pieces, gears, winding key, clock hands and the large butterfly charm from the G&P Butterfly Charm Set. Place all of the other pieces to the side for the Vintage Copper Tag tutorial, check out my blog for that project. 

Apply Piccolo Enamel Adhesive to the bottom and top frame pieces, gears, winding key, clock hands and the large butterfly charm. Coat the butterfly with 24K Gold Embossing Powder, the gears and winding key with Siam Silver Embossing Powder, bottom frame piece with Copper Kettle Embossing Powder and the top frame piece with Vintage Black Embossing Powder; heat to set.

Using Glastique Matte Finishing Glaze as an adhesive glue one spacer circle to the middle of the clock face. Glue the small hand on top of that, the second spacer and then glue the big hand on top. In this photo the bottom frame piece is use as a guide to glue the hands in place for the desired time.

Smear some Glastique Matte Finishing Glaze on the wings of the butterfly and sprinkle the wings with G&P Pure Sparkle Gold Glitter. Let dry.

Carefully cut the stand from the swirl dress form the Vintage Dress Forms Accents set. Save the dress form piece for the Vintage Copper Tag tutorial. The stand will be used as antenna for the butterfly.

Glue the stand upside down on the butterfly with Matte Glastique, now the butterfly has antenna and coat the antenna G&P 3D Enamel Mars Black. Let dry.

Glue the winding key to the clock face with Matte Glastique and place foam squares around the edges.

Apply Piccolo Enamel Adhesive on the edges of the bottom and top frame pieces, gears and winding key. Coat with Real Rust Embossing Powder and heat to set. Glue the gears to the clock face and let dry.

Apply a thin bead of Glastique on the underside of the top ring and using office clips, clip in place until dry.

Apply a thin bead of Glastique on the underside of the top ring and globe clip in place on the bottom frame piece until dry.

Attach the frame section to the clock face with the adhesive squares. Apply the green sticker gems to the frame with Matte Glastique and let dry.

Apply Matte Glastique to the outside edges of the globe and let dry. Once dry it gives the globe a vintage look.

Apply Matte Glastique to edges of the ornament and place the reindeer moss on top of the Glastique. The butterfly can be glued on top of the moss in the same manner.

Fixing the bubbles

When you heat Piccolo Embossing Powders, sometimes little bubbles will pop up. Once they start, they can quickly get out of control and you will have bubbles rising and popping all over the place.

These can be caused by too much Piccolo Embossing Powder Adhesive or by the heat source being too close or going on for too long.

But, if this happens to you, all is not lost. Just move your heat gun away from the boiling and finish heating the powder on your piece. Let it cool. (If you are heating on a Non-Stick Craft Sheet, carefully move the piece to another section of the mat and when cool enough to touch, lift it and wave it in the air or blow on it to cool it quickly.)

Now, go back in and heat just the bubbles. They will quickly melt right back into the powder and you will have a beautiful, flawless finish!

Greetings to Someone Special

Hello! Steph here with a card today. I love to make cards. I love to see what I can create in such a small area. Using the G&P bookboard elements makes card making so easy and fun. There are so many products in a variety of sizes that can be used in so many different ways.

Supplies:

• Vintage Teddy Flourish
• Mardi Gras Embossing Powder
• Titanium White 3D Enamel Gel
• Metallic Copper 3D Enamel Gel
• Glastique
• Piccolo Embossing Adhesive

I began by separating the pieces from the Vintage Teddy Flourish as I wanted to use the frame for this card. The Teddy will be used for another project I have in mind.

Use the Piccolo Embossing Powder Adhesive to hold the embossing powder on by dabbing it on the top side of the bookboard frame. Sprinkle the moist frame with G&P Mardi Gras Embossing Powder, tip off excess and heat set; repeat for a total of three layers.

Cut cardstock to fit behind the frame and use Glastique as an adhesive to attach it to the back of the embossed frame. Temporarily clamp the pieces together with binder clips or clip clothespin till the Glastique adhesive sets up.

To create the background of the card, I used a floral embossing folder and added Titanium White and Metallic Copper 3D Enamel Gels in open areas around the background. Use Glastique to adhere the frame to the background. 

I stamped my image and then with Copic Markers. Fussy cut the image and adhere it to the card using dimensional foam dots. The sentiment is also inserted in the frame.

Tips for creating crafty doilies

Good morning, Steph here today with a fun tip to share.

Do you have lots of doilies around the house? Those lovely delicate pieces of tissue that Grandma always used as decorative elements for her cakes? Well, if you do, here's a fun tip to decorate them - use Globecraft & Piccolo Embossing Powders. You can take plain old white doilies and make them fabulous in any color you want.


Supplies:

• Girls Night Out Embossing Powder
• Poodle Skirt Embossing Powder
• Mossy Glen Embossing Powder
• Piccolo Embossing Powder Adhesive

On these doilies, I  used Piccolo Adhesive and added liberal mounts of  Poodle Skirt Embossing Powder to the doily in the upper left; Girls Night Out Embossing Powder to the doily in the upper right and Mossy Glen Embossing Powder to the bottom one. 

  

You do need a delicate touch, though. Pressing the adhesive too hard on the doily will tear it as you can see here. These doilies may not look like much now, but wait until you see the projects I have planned for them on Monday's post. Be sure to come back for more!

Flower Drop Charms warming up to Spring

Hi, Kristie here and I am going to show you how I made this lovely Flower charm earrings and pendant using the Piccolo Enamel Gels.

Here is what you will need:

• G&P Flower Drops Charm Set
• Napthol Red 3D Enamel Gel
• Cobalt Turquoise 3D Enamel Gel      
• Pure Sparkle Silver Glitter
• Piccolo Instant UV resin

Step one: choose one flower in each charm and apply Cobalt Turquoise 3D Enamel Gel to it.

Use a slow movement to avoid air bubbles.

Step two: Apply Napthol Red 3D Enamel Gel to the rest of the charm, and repeat for each one.

Add a small dot to the center of the Turquoise flowers with the  Napthol Red 3D Enamel Gel 

Step three: Sprinkle on a little  Pure Sparkle Silver Glitter.

Step three: After the enamel gel dries, turn over each piece and repeat the process on the opposite side. 

 Step four: After this side dries, apply a layer of Instant UV Resin.

Just look at how lovely they turned out! I love how the gels stay "domed" and shiny!

More DIY Ornaments!

 

And, YES! It's yet another DIY Ornament from me - Linda! I can't seem to get enough of these. This one is for my aunt who hasn't been feeling well lately. The photo inset is her, her sister (my Mom) and their brother. I think she'll like it.

I started with our Globecraft & Piccolo Portrait DIY Ornament Kit, which by the way, includes two complete ornaments. I coated the outer rings with our Piccolo Embossing Powder Adhesive in the dabber bottle then sprinkled on G&P Vintage Copper Embossing Powder and heat set it. I layered two coats of embossing powder to create that lovely texture and color on the rings.

I printed out two small identical photos and distressed the edges then applied a bit of Ranger's Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

When all was ready I glued a piece of thin wire between the photos so I could support them between the globes once the ornament is assembled.

I created a charm from our Butterfly Charm Set using our 3D Enamel Gels and our new Piccolo UV Resin. Jump on over to my blog for a quick tutorial on the charm.
